Beats Face Off

Beats Solo HD
The Good:

  • The Beats Solo HD are very comfortable, amongst the few comfortable on ear headphones. The soft leather and foam filling hit all the right spots.
  • The Beats Solo HD isolate sound very well. If you want a pair of headphones that will shut everyone around you up, go for these.
  • The Style; these headphones use sleek simplicity to win me over, they look great.

The Bad:

  • The sound... These sound terrible and are almost torturous, the bass is muddy, the highs are hidden, the mids are non-existent. The music sounds awfully artificial
  • The Durability; these are bad, really bad. The headband snaps, the ear cups displace, the padding comes right off, ear cushions come off.. What the hell?

Beats Studio
The Good:

  • The Studios have amazing noise isolation, absolutely stunning, should shut people around you, up.
  • The Style may not appeal to some, but I love it. It all just seems fluid and classy, like its one big beautiful piece.
  • Bass? The high amounts of bass makes these headphones bliss for bass heads.
  • These old beats are super strong. Although they are predominantly plastic, these headphones are sturdy, you can feel the clicks while adjusting and the stability while usage.
  • With two big, soft ear cushions, these are heavenly, they are super comfortable, almost like angel butts on your ears.

The Bad:

  • The noise leak isn’t bad; it’s downright obnoxious. Even at 50% volume, you will surely piss a few people off.
  • The Bass?? If you plan on using these for rock, please don’t. The bass will drown everything else out.
  • You need batteries? Why? Just why? These headphones are rendered useless when they are out of batteries? So, Unlike the SL300, these can't be used without batteries. Well, that sucks.
  • The lack of a Studio cable. The box says studio…? Where’s the studio cable?

Beats Pro

The Good:

  • The beats have blissful bass, but they don’t murder your highs and mids. Yay.
  • These headphones are built like tanks, with gunmetal finished aluminum; these WILL last you long.
  • The headband is amazing. Full leather, amazing durability. WOW.-The appearance, for people who need pretty cans on their heads, these should do very well. DJs will feel like nothing short of Skrillex wearing these.
  • Good reference headphones, with these, you CAN hear every last sound.

The Bad:

  • The Pros are heavy. Super freaking heavy
  • High clamping pressure, if you have big ears, this might hurt you…
  • Very Expensive; don’t even bother if you want a bang for the buck…
Beats Overall:

We’ve established that beats have terribly muddy bass in most instances, and that they are pretty underperforming excuses in some cases. With Beats Audio, what we have is a mixed bag;  some good, some bad and some just terrible.

Final Verdict

Without any bias whatsoever, we have a clear winner…The Beats Pro. An amazing headphone. Even though it’s price holds it down from selling a lot, these headphones sound great. When they were initially announced, people wondered how beats might screw it up, luckily, they didn’t, and instead of crap, what they gave us was a clear winner for our comparison today.

Winner Beats Pro- Grade – B+
